Unhappy landing for Guy ahead of Mr Price Pro

Former national surf team member and multiple Western Province Champion Stacey Guy recently suffered a fractured ankle, but should be back in action well in time for the Mr Price Pro Ballito.
Guy was on a photo trip in February with her apparel sponsor Red alongside teammates Greg Emslie, Gary van Wieringen, Matt Kruger, Tammy Smith, Michelle Imeson and Tanah Rivalland when her dream weekend ended in the blink of an eye.
The crew ended up surfing Salmon Bay which offered fun, rippable beach break lefts and rights for the majority of the sessions and that’s where it ended for Guy. On a bright and clear Sunday morning (February 7) Guy boosted a frontside air and when she connected with her board on the landing she knew immediately that she was in serious trouble.
“I felt the pain straight away and knew I had done something bad to my ankle,” said a disappointed Guy who at one point was facing surgery for her injury.
After an initial check up with the doctors and one sleepless night Guy went for a second opinion the following day at Alballito Hospital and was relieved to find out that she wouldn’t have to go under the surgeon’s knife.
After a two month break from her favorite pastime Guy should be back in the water making up for the lost time as she prepares for the long competition season ahead.
Guy said she was hoping to be back in action for the second stop on the PST calendar, which is the Gotcha Pro in Scottburgh on April 10-11, and follows the March 6-7 Mr Price WP Open.
"Right now I'm looking at another few weeks in a cast and then about two weeks of rehab before I'm fit. I'm hoping to be back in action by the second PST event of the year on the 10th and 11th of April."
This should give her plenty of time to be ready for the Mr Price Pro Ballito on July 1-11.
