Kelly Slater on track for 10th World Title

Kelly Slater has one hand on the 2010 ASP World Title Trophy after an impressive win over World Number 2, South African Jordy Smith, in the recent Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Kelly has proven to be one of the worlds all time best sportsmen and him winning his 10th World Title at age of 38 will be testament to this.

I knew when Jordy won the Billabong Pro JBay and went to number one in the world that this would get Slater fired up! Kelly loves and thrives on competition and in the four events since the Billabong Pro, Kelly has had two first place finishes, a second and a third, and these are the type of solid consistent results that win world titles!

Travis Logie had a great run in the Rip Curl Pro Portugal with a ninth place finish that bumped him up to 29th on the ratings. Travis surfed some big heats, taking down hotshots Dane Reynold and current World Champion Mick Fanning in the process. Travis now has a chance to crack the top 22 on the World Title Ratings in order to qualify for the 2011 World Title Tour and two solid results in the Rip Curl Search event and Billabong Pipe masters will see Travis back in there.

I am currently in Peru with the South African Surfing team for the 2010 ISA World Games. The South African team has had six great days to warm up for the event that starts tomorrow. Today will be the official march past and we are proudly in our national blazers and ready to go. The team is focused, everyone is on fine form and I feel South Africa has a very real chance of winning the title. The contests runs from the 20 October to 27 October at Sinhoritas and Caballero’s, a left and a right hand side of the big bay in Punta Hermosa, South of Lima, Peru. The breaks are really fun and with a solid swell underway the event should be insane! Follow the South African Surfing team in the Billabong ISA World at www.isasurfing.org
